Fused Deposition Modeling

Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) techniques create prototypes out of plastic or casting wax.

FDM uses filaments of heated thermoplastic. The thermoplastic is deposited onto the platform layer by layer. The thermoplastic hardens quickly when kept at a low temperature allowing subsequent layers to be placed on top of the preceding layers.

This is a basic overview of fused deposition modeling prototyping technology. For more information, please review our article on rapid technology prototyping.
